There are so many questions related to veneer, like, “What is veneer wood?” Or, what is veneer? How is wood veneer made, or what is the veneer manufacturing process? How do you produce veneer wood?

Wood veneer is made from natural wood. From a log, they cut it into many thin layers, usually from 0.1 to 2 mm, which is called veneer. It is calculated that a 300mm tall, 200mm wide, and 2500mm long tree produces about 150 to 300 square meters of veneer (depending on the thickness of the veneer sheet).

When comparing natural wood with industrial wood using veneer surfaces, each has advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages of industrial wood using veneer surfaces are that they are cheaper and are not warped or termite-infested like natural wood because, in the production process, they are treated to prevent warping and the penetration of termites.

Another advantage is that veneer wood has a brighter and more beautiful surface than natural wood because the veneers are selected after cutting to ensure the exquitive wood grain. In addition, veneer wood can be grafted, crossed, upheld, reversed, etc., to create something unique, fancy and suitable for some modern trend designs. This makes the product more diverse in design.

However, industrial wood using veneer surfaces has some disadvantages as well. Because it is made of industrial wood or particle boards, it is not resistant to water. If the surface is wet or has been soaked in water for a long time, it will bulge, and the surface is damaged. In addition, these veneer surfaces are also easy to crack when they collide. For finished products, do not move them a lot because it can cause chipped or cracked joints.

Therefore, the furniture made from veneer wood looks very nice, but it is only used in places where it is always high and cool, not humid, and absolutely not allowed to be placed in water. The veneer furniture is usually suitable for dry places. Especially in the countries with temperate climate, it is well suited for use.

In Vietnam, when the forest resources are being exploited close to exhaustion, veneer wood is the optimal solution to supply the demand for furniture in life. Moreover, the advanced technology is always updated to help improve the quality of industrial wood, which makes it possible for people everywhere, in any kind of climate, to use it. The use of veneer wood to replace natural wood also contributes to environmental protection.
